    Before you buy

    • Buy the 915 MHz (US) version. Many stores sell the same board for other regions.
    • Check whether the battery is included and which connector it uses. Boards without one need a matching LiPo or 18650 cell.
    • Find out what your local group runs before choosing firmware: how to find nodes near you.

    Common questions

What is the best Meshtastic device for beginners?

For most beginners, a handheld with a built-in battery that pairs with your phone is the easiest start, because there is nothing to wire or case. If you want to text without a phone, pick one with a screen and keyboard. If you want the cheapest way to try it, a bare dev board works, but you will need a battery, a case, and some setup.

    Do I need two devices?

You need someone to talk to. If there is an active mesh near you, one device can join it. If not, buy at least two so you can message each other, or add a fixed node in a high spot to link more people.

Should I buy for Meshtastic or MeshCore?

Buy for the network your local group runs, because the two do not talk to each other. Most popular devices run either firmware, so you can switch later.
